The death of the feline has sparked fury among internet users. “The operation was meticulously carried out. Lured by meat, Cecil was hunted for nearly fourteen hours before being shot in the body and decapitated by the American dentist,” reports Metronews.fr. Cecil the lion, Zimbabwe’s star animal, was only thirteen years old. He lived in Hwange National Park.
The country’s Safari Operators Association (SOAZ) identified the man responsible for his killing. It was Walter James Palmer, a wealthy American poacher from Minnesota (northern United States), the association revealed during a press conference in Harare, the capital. He did not act alone: his two accomplices (a guide and the owner of the farm) were arrested and were due to appear in court Tuesday evening on poaching charges.

Worse still, it appears the poacher was not acting for the first time. The man expressed regret “that his activity led to the death” of the animal, reports the Huffingtonpost.fr. But the damage had already been done!
