The French twin sisters of the group Ibeyi will perform on November 12 at the Casino de Paris. Of Cuban and Venezuelan descent, they have been shaking up the music scene for several months. Their appearances are like their voices: they blend together, complement one another, are alike yet different.
Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz are the sisters who make up the group Ibeyi. The twins grew up in Paris and have been immersed in music since early childhood. Their father, Anga Diaz, was the famous Cuban percussionist of the Buena Vista Social Club. The softness of their music is hypnotic, it could almost make us leave the ground if their lyrics were not equally moving. Their seven-track opus blends soul and pop with a touch of reggae; at only 19 years old, the members of Ibeyi are singer-songwriters and performers.
Their songs are performed in English, French, Spanish, and Yoruba, a language spoken in Nigeria and Benin that arrived in Cuba with Niger-Congolese slaves. Their latest single, River, is a true success, with a mystical and hypnotic music video.
